Cyber Essentials is a government-backed certification scheme which covers five basic security controls your business should implement to protect yourself from cyber-attacks while also encouraging good cyber security practice.
By implementing those controls laid out within the Cyber Essentials scheme, you could mitigate up to 96% of common cyber-attacks .
Focusing on protection, Cyber Essentials covers the following five areas within scope;
Protecting access to user accounts and privileged accounts to ensure that misuse or unauthorised access is prevented.
Enabling the most secure configurations of your hardware and software to prevent accidental or malicious activity.
Ensuring that your hardware and software have the latest and most secure version installed to protect against vulnerabilities.
Protecting your systems and end points from virus and malware infection which could lead to a loss of information or service.
Protecting the boundary of your business to prevent unwanted traffic from entering into your IT systems and services.
By certifying your business to the Cyber Essentials standard, you are showing clients your commitment to protecting your client’s data, your businesses data, and your IT systems from the most common cyber-attacks.
Cyber Essentials Certification will also show potential customers your commitment to protecting their data. Major businesses are increasingly requiring their suppliers to be Cyber Essentials certified which may be a deal breaker to win a contract, especially those connected within UK Government and MoD supply chains.
Cyber Essentials also gives you the opportunity to audit your businesses internal security controls, allowing you to identify gaps and risks. Implementing those controls specified by the Cyber Essentials standard will fill those gaps and mitigate those risks you were previously unaware of.
